FACULTY OPENINGS
in Mechanical, Materials Aerospace Science and Engineering

The Department of Mechanical, Materials and Aerospace Engineering (MMAE) of the University of Central Florida (UCF), Orlando, Florida, invites applications for several tenure-track faculty positions, to start August 2007. It is anticipated that the positions will be filled at the Assistant/Associate levels, but candidates with exceptional qualifications for senior appointments are encouraged to apply. Minimum qualifications include a doctoral degree or equivalent, by the start of the appointment, in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or a closely related discipline. Duties include (1) teaching undergraduate and graduate courses, (2) supervising students in research projects, and (3) establishing an externally funded research program. Of particular interest are candidates who can support our teaching mission in established curricula while building a research program in critical areas such as (1) energy systems and (2) controls/mechatronics/mechanical systems. Prior teaching, industrial and/or postdoctoral experience is desirable but not required.

All areas of Aerospace Engineering and Mechanical Engineering will be considered, but there is a special emphasis on recruiting candidates who can support our teaching mission in established curricula while building a research program in critical areas such as (1) aerodynamics/propulsion, (2) aerospace structural mechanics, and (3) controls/flight controls. Prior teaching, industrial and/or postdoctoral experience is desirable but not required.

UCF is a major metropolitan research university with 48,000 students. MMAE, with over 1400 students and 30 faculty members, offers B.S. degrees in Mechanical Engineering and Aerospace Engineering, M.S. degrees in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering, and Aerospace Engineering, and Ph.D. degrees in Mechanical Engineering and Materials Science and Engineering. Current research funding exceeds $7.5M per annum, for an average of $277K per faculty member. Four current faculty members are holding NSF career awards. UCF is near the Kennedy Space Center as well as major facilities of Lockheed-Martin, Siemens Power Corporation, Boeing and Harris Corporations. MMAE enjoys close relations with the UCF Advanced Materials Processing and Analysis Center (AMPAC), the Center for Research and Education in Optics and Lasers (CREOL), the Florida Solar Energy Center (FSEC), the Institute for Simulation and Training (IST), and the UCF Nanoscience Technology Center.

Review of candidates will proceed as applications are received. Applications will be accepted until the positions are filled, but applicants are strongly encouraged to apply as soon as possible and no later than Feb 1, 2008.
